This is going to be the Neer test for shoulder impingement. Hi everyone! The Neer test is another very common test used in the assessment of shoulder impingement. According to a big study by Hedgedus et al. from the year 2012, its sensitivity is 72% and specificity rated at 60%. To conduct a Neer test, have your patients in a sitting position. With one hand, depress the scapula. And with the other hand, internally rotate the patient’s arm. And then perform maximally forced forward flexion in the glenohumeral joint. A positive test is pain reproduction on the injured side. If you remember the shoulder impingement algorithm from Cools et al., you can evaluate the outcome of the Neer test in two ways. If your patient primarily complains of anterior shoulder pain during the test, it's more an indication of subacromial impingement. Whereas if your patient complains about having posterior shoulder pain, this is more an indication of an internal impingement. All right guys, I hope you enjoyed this video.
