Especially after taking a shower, when they slightly slick back their wet hair, they look in the mirror as if they were a character from a drama, like Kang Dong-won, slowly gazing upwards. Of course, they don't explicitly think they are handsome, as they have at least a minimal sense of self-awareness. However, they do make unfounded assessments, thinking that they are at least somewhat good-looking, admiring themselves and sporting a satisfied smile. While there may be many who scoff at this idea, if one were to place a hand on their heart and reflect on themselves, it would be hard to deny that they too have been deceiving themselves throughout their lives. While men are deceiving themselves by looking at the illusions reflected in the bathroom mirror, about 80% of women believe they are too overweight. Of course, there are some who actually are, but it seems that the majority are victims of the aesthetic images that our society has forcefully instilled in women. In other words, there are many unfortunate cases where women are very healthy and beautiful but cannot see themselves that way. However, among women in our country, there is one aspect that 90%, if not 100%, unanimously agree on: they believe they look much younger than their peers. In other words, they insist that they are truly youthful. This phenomenon usually does not appear in teenagers or those in their twenties, but the moment they turn thirty, it becomes very apparent.

People start to talk in the same way as if they learned from the same academy, even when no one asked. No one sees me as being in my thirties, and when I'm outside, everyone reacts by saying, No way, don't joke! when I tell them I'm 30, as if they can't believe it. New juniors I meet are often surprised because they thought I was much younger than them. There are many episodes similar to this, and this phenomenon continues to evolve and persist into our forties, fifties, and even sixties without ever stopping. However, one surprising fact is that our Korean women genuinely look young. Moreover, this is just my personal opinion, but I think they are the most beautiful in the world. Just go to a department store or Gangnam Station on the weekend, or even to Kyobo Bookstore.

Even when I go to the same places, most of the women around me are incredibly beautiful and charming. Of course, it's not that they dislike me, but this realization has been something I've held for a long time, and as the years go by, it has solidified into a belief. In my case, I have been working in Korea for about five years, and most of the Korean colleagues I work with are over thirty, and almost all of them are men. However, it's really strange how they all look and feel so youthful that I sometimes doubt if they are really the age they claim to be. This is something I particularly feel in Korea compared to all other countries, which I find very peculiar. Additionally, I find it fascinating that Korean people don't seem to have any body odor at all. This is not just my personal opinion;

Many people share their opinions and agree on this topic, which is easily observable. Everyone believes that this charm is roughly 70% genetic blessing, meaning it's something you are born with, while the remaining 30% depends on how you present yourself. There are indeed some people, like Cha Eun-woo, who shine just by existing, which can be quite frustrating and unreasonable. However, for most average men, excluding those extreme outliers like us squid, a little grooming of their hairstyle, or exercising and dieting to reduce some of the weight around their face and belly, and paying attention to what they wear daily can make a significant difference.

Upgrading your outfit just a little can make a person look completely different, almost like magic. However, the true magic lies elsewhere: in the transformation known as makeup. When humanity harnesses the most powerful optical illusion technology we have invented, the effect is nearly hallucinatory. Nowadays, makeup techniques are so incredible that they can make a Sonata look like a Porsche or a Porsche look like a Bugatti, creating extreme differences. The country with the most outstanding makeup techniques in the world is, in fact, our country. This is why women from around the globe are eager to learn and follow our makeup methods. Moreover, the beauty industry, including cosmetics, is experiencing the fastest growth and becoming the most normalized in our country. And it’s not just about dividing into men and women; our idols are recognized not only for their musical talent or dance skills.

In addition, due to that very beauty, there is a phenomenon that is gaining unparalleled popularity in the global market. Moreover, the protagonists in our country's dramas are also enjoying global popularity across Europe, Asia, and America. In the case of our country, it seems that in addition to their innate genetic beauty, they also possess extraordinary skills in enhancing that beauty. Regardless of whether someone has blue or brown eyes, there is an undeniably striking and unique charm that stands out to anyone who sees it. As a result, various communities and forums around the world are actively discussing why Korean women are so beautiful or youthful, exchanging various opinions about the secrets behind it. This phenomenon has been ongoing for over a decade now, so they have been diligently studying and compiling the secrets of beauty and youthfulness that they have uncovered during this time.

To put it simply, Korean women have really beautiful skin. This topic about skin is often the first one that comes up. In my personal opinion, as a man with little knowledge about makeup, the biggest characteristic of Korean women's makeup is its naturalness. Unlike the heavy and exaggerated makeup that celebrities showcased in the 90s, it often leaves one wondering whether they are wearing makeup at all. Strangely enough, it gives an overall effect that makes them look very beautiful, providing a natural and comfortable feel.

I once saw a story about a female student who came to study in Korea from either China or Vietnam. When she first arrived, she looked quite unsophisticated, but over the course of one or two years, she became accustomed to Korean makeup techniques and transformed into someone incredibly beautiful—almost unrecognizable. However, achieving such a high level of makeup requires significant effort. Women put a lot of time and energy into their makeup routines. So, when we’re finally going out for dinner after a long time, and I hear my mom say she's ready, I often find her in the living room, looking like she's ready to go, but she spends a whole hour in her room getting ready. This feels like the long-standing lie our Korean moms tell us when they say dinner is ready and to hurry up. Every time I get frustrated by this, I can’t help but admire the final result.

The pain of waiting will soon become a reality. The third reason is cosmetic surgery. I have seen many cases where, with just a small touch, an ordinary face can be transformed into a truly attractive impression, especially with eyelid surgery, without going overboard. Our country is known for having the best skills in cosmetic surgery in the world. Along with genetic beauty, there are times when even the person themselves may not recognize the transformation due to the best makeup techniques, combined with a bit of medical assistance, resulting in an incredible aesthetic effect. Additionally, foreign analysts note that Korean women are exceptionally beautiful, and the final reason is that the aesthetic standards in Korean society are somewhat abnormally high. This may be why, when foreigners walk down the streets of our country, they notice an overwhelming number of beautiful women and handsome men.

Despite having many standards, when Koreans evaluate themselves, they often find that foreigners perceive them as strange or difficult to understand. Our aesthetic standards in Korea are likely among the highest in the world, to an almost excessive degree. Additionally, Koreans are very conscious of the opinions of those around them, and this awareness drives them to strive for those high standards. As a result, the beauty industry and cosmetic surgery market in our country have grown tremendously, leading to a significant increase in the average aesthetic level of our citizens. There is a saying in English that goes, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This means that the world can appear differently depending on what one believes. For example, a long time ago, when I was in the military, I had just been assigned to my unit.

Was it a powerless bottle of insect repellent that I received? Now, the members of the unit had to get up immediately when the lights went out in the barracks at night to spray the room with insecticide to chase away mosquitoes. However, one morning, the insecticide ran out. If it was discovered that we hadn't checked during the day whether there was any insecticide left, we would face severe scolding from the terrifying senior members, as daunting as the sky itself. So, with my heart racing, I had no choice but to quietly walk around the dark barracks as if nothing was wrong, making a sound as if I was spraying insecticide with my mouth.
