we just got our first look at the iPhone SE4, and based off of what we're seeing, this could be the best value smartphone of all time. Apple's budget model is likely to cost under $500 but feature a completely revamped design, one that supports a much larger display, a massively improved camera system on the back, battery life that is finally good, and Apple's latest chip that supports a bunch of new AI features. Combining all of this together, I just think the iPhone SE4 is going to be tough to beat, and here's why. Apple is finally getting rid of the home button design that we have had for way too long. It's based off of a design from 2014 with the iPhone 6, with a super small 4.7-inch screen, which compared to the rest of Apple's lineup just doesn't make sense anymore. Now, this time around, we know that Apple will once again be using a recycled design, but the story this year is going to look a lot better. So, with the iPhone SE4, Apple is

jumping years into the future. Landing in 2022 using the base design of the iPhone 14 as the core for the iPhone SE4, but rather than just copy and pasting the design here like Apple's done in the past, they're making some really nice upgrades too. While the iPhone SE4 will continue to be made out of Apple's lightweight aluminum material, the device is getting significantly larger with the display on the front now going edge to edge, no more bezels or a home button, and increasing in size to 6.1 in. But more importantly, Apple is also upgrading the screen tech here as well. We are getting rid of LCD, and the iPhone SE4 is going to be their first budget model with a true OLED display that brings you all the benefits of OLED, things like improved color accuracy, true black levels, better contrast. All of this is just going to be a night and day difference compared to the current LCD iPhone SE. To be fair though, Apple still wants this to look a little dated and

that's why they're throwing the notch at the top. Although it is the smaller version of the notch, the same one that we saw on the iPhone 14. And that means this iPhone SE will also be the first to support Face ID. If you were somebody that was holding out for Apple to add a fingerprint sensor in the side button or bring Touch ID back to the iPhone in some way, it looks like Apple has completely killed that. And that moving forward, every single phone that they make will continue to use their facial scanning tech. Also, if you were hoping for a 120 Hz ProMotion display, that is confirmed to not be happening because Apple's not going to bring a pro premium feature to their budget iPhone, especially considering that the $800 iPhones don't even have 120 Hz yet, which yeah, is wild, but it's a story for another day. Shifting over to the side of the iPhone SE is one of the most surprising changes for me that Apple is getting rid of the mute silent switch and replacing it with the action button.

now I think this is an incredible change, but I'm just surprised Apple is bringing what just two years ago was a pro feature down to their cheapest iPhone that they make. That's pretty cool. Plus, if we shift over to the bottom of the iPhone SE4, Apple is changing the charging port too. We are getting rid of Lightning, and Apple is finally putting USB-C on the iPhone SE. Which, when they do this, will mean that every new iPhone that Apple sells now will have a USB-C port. Which is a moment. It didn't actually ever feel like that day would come. Most of the time though, I end up wirelessly charging my iPhone, which is why I partnered up with Charge, who sponsored today's video. continue to use just a single lens design, although they are doing something with this camera that I actually can't believe. According to rumors, although it's just one lens, Apple is upgrading this to a 48-megapixel sensor underneath. Now, when I first heard this, I was pretty skeptical, but considering Apple has been manufacturing the sensor for a couple of years now, it has likely gotten cheap enough to where they can bring it to more models. And Apple adding the 48-megapixel sensor also means that for the first time, the iPhone SE is going to likely gain a 2X telephoto option, meaning that in addition to the standard 1X shooting field of view, you can now zoom in and crop on the sensor, just like Apple has done with their other phones, sort of like adding a second telephoto lens to the iPhone SE, but doing it through the hardware sensor. It's pretty cool. We're also hearing that the iPhone SE4 will finally gain night mode, which the current iPhone SE just doesn't have, and this is likely going to be powered

by the new chip on the inside. Listen, normally I wouldn't talk about a new chip. It's like, okay, it's a little bit faster, but this chip is going to be Apple's latest A18 version, which not only supports all of their latest performance and efficiency benefits, it also means that all of the Apple intelligence features will be available on the iPhone SE 2. That means over the course of the next year, the iPhone SE 4 will be able to get Gen Emoji for creating custom emojis, the all-new look for Siri, including the features where it's actually smarter and understands you better, the new version of Chat GPT baked in here, as well as other features too, like the suite of text editing tools in summarization. That's going to be on Apple's cheapest iPhone, and I just think that is going to make this a ridiculously compelling option. If you look at the rest of Apple's more expensive lineup, it's also likely that the A18 chip brings a bunch of new safety features alongside it. Things like emergency SOS via satellite.

where if you are stranded somewhere or in danger without cell service, you can reach out to emergency services for help. Built-in crash detection, so that if you are in a vehicle that is involved in an accident, it can automatically reach out to those same emergency services. And most prominently, the ability to text people via satellite when you don't have cell service or you might be in an area where a natural disaster has occurred and cell towers are down. All of these features are genuinely game-changing for scenarios that you don't ever plan for. And with Apple seeing these safety features as core to the iPhone experience, it's almost certain that we'll see these on the new iPhone SE 4. In addition to all of this, though, the A18 also has another change, and that is going to make the iPhone SE 4's battery life a lot better too. We've already seen Apple talk about how by putting the A18 in their newest iPhone 16 lineup, that improved battery life quite a bit. Now, that was also because Apple put

physically larger batteries in the iPhone 16 lineup. But keep in mind that the iPhone SE4 is getting a lot bigger too, making more room for a much larger battery. The current iPhone SE3, for example, has about 15 hours of video playback for battery life. But with Apple making these improvements, the iPhone SE4 will have about seven additional hours of battery life, according to my calculations, giving you about 22 hours of video playback. Again, combining the efficiency of the A18 and the much larger battery Apple is going to be putting in here. I mean, just looking at the iPhone SE4 for everything we've talked about so far, this phone is going to be a ridiculous upgrade. But here's the thing about the iPhone SE. Apple is also going to be doing something with this phone, and you're going to be getting a feature here that is not offered on any other product that Apple makes right now. And that's going to be an entirely new Apple-made chip on the inside, not the processor, but actually

one for the 5G modem. See, for years, we've been hearing about Apple's work to finally get rid of Qualcomm for 5G and bring it in-house, just like they did back in the day with their A-series chips. Apple was tired of relying on competitors because they couldn't tune and change exactly what they wanted, so they went in by themselves and built their own chip that they could perfectly optimize for their hardware and software. And now, according to rumors for the iPhone SE4, we're going to see that same jump with the 5G chip. But why is Apple bringing it to the iPhone SE4 first? Well, this device is going to be significantly lower volume than the other iPhones that Apple makes, so they want to sort of trial it here and get a lot of data and feedback before they roll it out in the future to all iPhone models in 2026 or 2027. But if we know anything about Apple's chip division, they like to make things really efficient, and with this new 5G chip, a little bit of that

strategy is going to be coming to the iPhone SE4, guys. This is the entire look at Apple's next-generation budget smartphone, a product that will likely be retailing for under $500. If Apple's history and track record of selling this phone is anything to look at, but when is the iPhone SE4 releasing specifically? Well, rumors and sources are pointing to a spring launch, likely in the February, March, or April time frame when Apple normally drops some new products in the spring.
