Having a pet die, it can be an emotionally devastating experience. Yet, we as a society, we're not really taking this seriously. Here's what I think needs to change. [Music] My last cat Murray, who you're seeing there, he unfortunately had to be euthanized a

few months ago, and yeah, it's been a little harder than I expected. Unfortunately, being a pet parent, and likely you've unfortunately had to experience the same thing, you have pets, you bond with them, but they're not unfortunately living as long as we do, and you know, we have to experience the

death of our pet and deal with pet loss. You know, even if your dog is older and you know he or she, she's had a great life, it's just, it's really never easy, you know. So, I'm going through some of those same feelings, emotions after Murray's

died. You know, health-wise, I don't think mentally, I'm feeling quite the same. Physically, not really quite the same. And every time that I've had a pet die, I'm just surprised how much more of an impact it has on me, and yeah, I don't necessarily tell other

people about that. There was a really good article written by a psychologist in Scientific American, and the gist of the article is helping us, like you and I, cope with pet loss. Like we need to have, you know, society as a whole recognize just how important pets are

in our lives, and more importantly, recognize that it's okay to grieve. And it's a big deal. If you have a parent that dies, you have a significant other that dies, what's your employer gonna do? Like, holy cow, I take that really, or

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear this happened. You know, take time off. You can have paid leave. You get recognition for example from your employer, but your dog dies, your cat dies, and you go up to him and say like, "I don't feel so great. I need to take some time off."

They're like, "Seriously, just get over it." Your dog dies, your cat dies. Not only is it okay to feel all these serious feelings of grief, it's completely normal. There are a bunch of great resources. I'll share some of the links in the description box below.

But more importantly, you know, try to find a few close friends and you know, start to share and open up like, "I'm feeling this way." And you feel how you feel. And some people need to be able to hear it and validate what you're saying because

these are legitimate, real feelings that is completely normal. I really feel that it's time that grieving pet parents, you know, we get the recognition we deserve. Thanks for watching this edition of Energy Secret. It's Dr. Jones.
