Today, I will be declaring a one-day exploration of this long-distance fishing vessel. Before we set sail, there are various things we need to check: the helmet, the boots, and the ship's equipment. 

We have the first mate, who is going out to work with us on the long-distance fishing vessel. I am Kim Kyung-sik, the first mate from Dongwon. Welcome! Even as someone who knows nothing about ships, I can tell that this is an important place for navigation. What kind of space is this? This is called the control room on the ship, where everything is managed and controlled.

It seems like this is a place where you can see a variety of screens at a glance. Could you introduce a few important features? What you see on the side is our radar equipment, which we use to contact the vessel and take generations to locate fish. It also requires electronic navigation, so you can think of it as GPS. Later, when you go out to sea, you will directly control and adjust everything here, right? I will control everything from this side. So, did you start doing that from the third mate level? Yes, typically, third mates work on the ground, while second mates and first mates usually stay up in the lookout. They look for birds and fish as part of their duties. If the first mate finds out where to go, the captain will rely on our reports to make a decision.

Now, could you please place the order? What qualifications are needed to operate a ship? Is there a separate fishing vessel license? Starting from level 6 up to level 1, the higher the level, the greater the qualification to operate larger ships. 

What is the general structure like? Usually, there is a helipad at the top. Below that is the bridge, and below that, we have the deck at the stern. In the middle, there is the crew cabin, which is the living space for the crew, including a dining area. There is also a storage area where fish are kept after being caught. We refer to the engine room, which houses the main engine.

So, do you have a reason for deciding to work on a deep-sea fishing vessel? There is a system where if you complete three years of military service, you can be exempted from the military. I want to utilize my major while also learning the job and earning money in this field.

I started to think a bit. Based on the filming date, you will be departing in about three to four days. When you were out for a short break, the signal didn't work. How do you get in touch then? The internet has been installed on the ship, so you can use KakaoTalk to communicate with your family and friends much more easily. Are there any advantages that the fishing industry provides compared to others? I understand that deep-sea fishing vessels used to have contracts for about two years, but a few years ago, they reduced it to one year. However, I believe the hospital is the only place that still offers a one-year contract. This is to ensure that the crew members can maintain a better work-life balance with more flexible working conditions. Are there any specific benefits that our company offers that stand out?

It seems that the equipment is quite good, especially the radar and sonar, or the components related to the engine and machinery. They seem to be introduced earlier than those on other vessels. So, how long is the typical repair period for a ship? It's generally set for every five years, but you can think of it as roughly once every two and a half years. The hull, as well as the exterior, gets repainted, and all the machinery and equipment are checked. Then, we take the ship out for a test to ensure everything is functioning properly before we give the go-ahead for departure. Could you explain what it means? The term offshore fishing refers to industries that can operate in locations where permits have been granted outside of the domestic market. Could you briefly talk about the history of Dongwon offshore fishing? Our chairman, Kim Jae-cheol, started with a second-hand offshore fishing vessel, Dongwon 31, and over time, we have built a fleet of about 38 vessels, which can be described as a long and rich history. Is that scale considered enormous even on a global level? The reason we refer to it as the largest fleet is that we possess various types of vessels, including purse seiners, longliners, trawlers, and support vessels. We can express that we have the capability of holding such a fleet. It feels a bit overwhelming, doesn't it? What kind of ship is the Future that we are currently on? It can be described as a newly built vessel.

You could say that it is a ship equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. What is the average annual catch volume? I understand it produces about 200,000 to 210,000 tons. We are about to move to the next location. If we shout future as if we are in a time machine, we will instantly teleport to the ground. One, two, three, future! Oh, why am I here? This isn't an arcade; there are so many controller handles. This is the console on the ship. It is where various positions can be manipulated. There is no way to visually spot fish, right? How do you detect that, ah, there must be tuna here? One method is to go up to the crow's nest and look for tuna with binoculars. We also use the latest equipment, like drones, to predict where the fish schools are and then detect them. I heard that once the tuna is caught, it spoils very quickly.

Now, what places are managed here? It involves maintaining freshness through rapid freezing, and such equipment is stored in a place called the engine room below. We operate the freezing system by lowering the temperature to between -40 and -45 degrees. This is one of the most important areas. We have an expert here to explain the engine room. How do you take action when a problem arises? Initially, the director will try to resolve it internally, but if that doesn't work, we also send technicians abroad for repairs. We cannot hold onto the valuable changes for long, so I will show you right away. The cost for Dongwon Industries has been finalized. We also checked on the conditions of the ships and how the crew members are doing, and it seems that the English language is quite appealing. As the technology continues to evolve, Dongwon Industries is making remarkable progress in its long-range fishing vessels.
