These people could be potential managers, team members, or even high-ranking officials. Networking mostly stems from the names on your target list of companies you aspire to work for - managers, potential colleagues, and supervisors you might collaborate with, even if there isn't a suitable job opening at the moment. By showing your interest and understanding of their work's impact, such as offering feedback on their projects, you can build connections based on common interests and mutual professional challenges. Many job seekers feel stuck because they believe they can't approach strangers, but this is a limiting belief. With the right strategy and approach, you don't need to be extremely outgoing. The first impression you create is crucial, so the more authentic you are and the deeper you delve into your research, the higher the chance of receiving a positive response. By intentionally expanding your network and taking steps to land interviews, you can turn connections into valuable opportunities. Once you've identified your career values, developed your marketing plan, and started engaging with the right people, it's time to capitalize on these efforts. When there is a job opening, you will be the first person they can refer to for this role. Being top of mind requires continuous connection. Imagine you connect with the right audience, engage with them, and then a job role opens. You need to keep in touch. The more you stay top of their mind, the higher the chance they may consider referring you when the opportunity comes. In formal interviews, do not forget to have a clear and concise idea about who you are, what you are looking for, and what you can offer. If possible, offer to complete a small project or analysis for your target company. Remember, the goal is not just to land any interview, but to secure interviews at companies where you can truly see yourself thriving and contributing.
