Hello, this is Mug. I finally got around to filming a video after a long time. I've been quite busy lately, which is why I haven't been able to shoot any videos. However, I found some time and decided to film again. Back in March of this year, I sent my Alpha 7 Mark IV to a friend. I used it for a year, and after sending it off, I purchased the Alpha 7C II. I've been using it continuously since then, and I've had it for about six months now. I want to talk about the aspects I liked during these six months of using the Alpha 7C II, so I thought I would make this video. 

Let's get started. First, I'll briefly touch on the specifications. It has 33 million pixels, which is the same as the Alpha 7 Mark IV. The fact that it has 33 million pixels is quite impressive compared to entry-level cameras that usually have around 20 million pixels. It offers a higher pixel count, and there’s more to it than just that.

As the numbers increase, I become more sensitive to hand tremors or vulnerable to night noise, so I think the pixel count is just right. For video recording, it offers non-cropped 4K at 30 frames per second, and 4K at 60 frames per second is cropped by 1.5 times. In my case, since I mainly shoot in 4K at 24 frames per second, I haven't felt it to be lacking. The basic hardware specs are almost identical to the Alpha 7 Mark IV, so it would be best to compare it on the same level as the Alpha 7C II. The biggest advantage I felt when transitioning from the Alpha 7 Mark IV to the Alpha 7C II Pro is its lightweight design. The Alpha 7 Mark IV weighs 659 grams, while the Alpha 7C II is 514 grams, which is noticeably different. Additionally, it is smaller in size, making it easy to fit into a bag, especially in a shoulder bag or sling bag of moderate size.

It was really nice that the camera bag didn't get caught on anything when I was putting it in. The reason I like this RF-style camera is that the viewfinder doesn't stick out from the top. With the Alpha 7 Mark IV, the viewfinder protrudes, which sometimes feels like it gets in the way when taking it in and out of the bag. There’s also a feeling that you have to insert it in a certain direction. On the other hand, the Alpha 7C2 fits very freely in the camera bag. It felt even more convenient when I took out a compact lens. Thanks to that, when using the Alpha 7 Mark IV, I primarily used a one-lens, one-body combination, but with the Alpha 7C2, I found I could afford to bring an extra lens along. The Alpha 7C II features powerful stabilization based on in-body stabilization, which provides strong correction for both photos and videos. This has come to me as a very convenient option. Recently, camera YouTubers have started mentioning that unless there is a special purpose, it seems that there is no longer a significant need to use tripods. They say that handheld shooting is now sufficient to capture photos and videos with the quality they desire, and I have come to fully agree with this statement while using the Alpha 7C II. Of course, there are still situations, like night photography or long exposures, where a tripod is necessary, especially when I want to take a picture of myself without asking someone else for help. However, with the powerful stabilization feature of the Alpha 7C II, I can keep the shutter speed over one second at night without significantly increasing the ISO.

I was able to achieve results without any shaking. I really liked this. The Alpha 7 Mark IV has a stabilization of 5.5 stops, which is actually sufficient. However, the stabilization is so good that it feels like a significant advantage. Especially now, I have a lens called the Tamron 70-300, which is known as a hungry telephoto lens, and it doesn't have image stabilization. Yet, I still feel like there's some degree of shaking. So, this stabilization really resonated with me. By the way, last year I had the experience of using the Fujifilm X-Pro 2 for a few months, and my biggest complaint was the lack of image stabilization. I was using the Alpha 7 Mark IV alongside it, and the difference was quite striking without it. With a relatively bright aperture value of F2...

I used such a prime lens, but I was still able to get quite a few shaky photos at night, even in places with some lighting, like squares. So, the stop compensation on the Alpha 7C II felt like a blessing to me. Compared to the Alpha 7 Mark IV, the Alpha 7C II has other advantages as well. First of all, it has high-level autofocus performance, which is unmatched by other brands, so I think that's an undeniable benefit. Recently, I've been enjoying portrait photography with a 55.8 prime lens. When I set it to portrait mode and use AF lock, it works great for capturing kids running around, even when eye detection isn't available. The ability to accurately track their bodies is quite impressive, in my opinion. Additionally, I appreciated the effective heat management compared to the Alpha 7 Mark IV. The heating issue was very serious. As a result, even after the firmware was updated later, I was quite worried about the heat while filming. However, the Alpha 7C II, like the first-generation model, managed heat control well. I did feel that it got a bit hot while shooting, but I never experienced the camera shutting down due to excessive heat. The Alpha 7C II does have some drawbacks compared to the Alpha 7 Mark IV; it has several weaknesses. For instance, it has only one SD card slot, a smaller viewfinder, and it only supports a shutter speed of 1/1 second. However, these aspects didn't significantly affect me as a consumer, especially regarding the SD card.

The one-slot feature and the insufficient shutter speed might have been inconvenient if I were pursuing photography as a profession. However, since I am only shooting as a hobby, these aspects don't feel particularly uncomfortable or critically problematic to me. In that context, the custom buttons on the Alpha 7 Mark IV are personal, but this model has two. That hasn't been a significant drawback for me. Of course, for those who frequently use custom buttons, it might be seen as a disadvantage. The viewfinder is small, which is somewhat inconvenient; I agree with that. However, unless it's an extremely bright day, I find myself using the LCD screen to shoot. Back when I used the RX 100 series, I really disliked it, but nowadays, the LCD screen is decent enough to work with.

Of course, when I still look at bodies like the Canon or similar, the display I see is quite different. However, I think that with this level, Sony cameras have improved. Let me summarize: There are still not many full-frame cameras in the RF style, like the Alpha 7C II. Recently, the Panasonic S9 has been released, which has advantages such as real-time corrections based on these features. However, it also has the disadvantage of limiting 4K video recording time to 15 minutes, making it a camera with a clear target audience. In fact, it doesn't even have a viewfinder. Therefore, I think it is quite a niche camera. On the other hand, I believe the Alpha 7C II is closer to being a versatile camera. For someone entering the full-frame world, it doesn't lack anything significant, nor is it exceptionally outstanding; it simply has the basics.

I think of it as a camera that does that. In fact, the camera with the results I like the most is Canon. However, there is no RF-style camera yet. Even in the R system, they all still have this SLR type that is raised up. Because of that, even though I want to use Canon, I can't use a Canon camera. I hope that an RF-style camera will be released in the R system. Until that comes out, since I don't have an alternative, I mentioned the same thing when I reviewed the Alpha 7C camera. Until an alternative is available, I think I will be using the Sony Alpha 7C II for the time being. Well then, I will wrap up today's video here.
