Google, in partnership with Samsung, just announced the Android XR platform. This is their vision for the future of augmented reality and artificial intelligence. This is all powered by the incredible Gemini 2.0, which was just released this week. Let me show you a

video about it right now. Why would you say now is the right moment to launch XR? Yeah, so for pretty much the history of computing, we've been using the rectangular box of a screen display, whether it's monitors, laptops, tablets, or phones. XR has the power to extend beyond

those boundaries. I think now is the perfect time to work on XR because you have a convergence of all these technologies, and Gemini is key to powering Android XR. The underlying technology allows us to process inputs from all different kinds of signals, much like you process the real world. The

magical thing about XR is that it's moving computing to a place that's truly as natural as you can imagine it. And XR is our new platform for headsets and glasses. It offers some of the best tools for developers to use and it reduces a

lot of the friction. We've been in this space since Google Glass, and we have not stopped. Things like ARCore, the geospatial API, Lens, Live View Translate, and now Gemini, we can take those experiences which already work great and find new ways to be helpful for people. When we talk about

headsets and glasses, we think about headsets as episodic products that you put on for a specific reason. When you're watching a game, Gemini could break down everything about Freddy's Grand Slam. This is the most visceral incarnation of any 3D space or spatial

in an environment you can... you could think of... I can't wait to spatialize old videos. It'll feel like you're right in your memories again. And then we think about glasses as all-day products that you use to get value throughout your day. Our technology really enables us to shrink down the

displays that go into the glasses. We'll see more of these highly portable devices that will more and more look like the ones I'm wearing right now. With glasses, you'll feel like you're a local, no matter where you are.

There's no way we could build this platform other than collaborating very closely. We've been working with Samsung for a number of years, and so we look for opportunities where we could really marry each other's strengths in creating something new, from software and UX to

hardware. Cross-functional partners across both companies have worked seamlessly, around the clock, as one team to build a powerful XR platform. We've learned that we can build the best platforms with an ecosystem of developers, designers, and device makers. A lot of deep collaboration happens for us

to bring the best solution to the ecosystem, to the platform, and to the users. Alone you can go fast, but together you can go far, and the only way we'll get there is if we build this together. So it shows a pretty clear vision that the final form factor of

artificial intelligence is going to be glasses. That is the same vision of the future of AI that Meta has, if you remember their glasses that they announced just about a month ago. So you can imagine wearing these glasses; they are see-through, but they project video.

They project interfaces onto the lenses themselves, so as you can see, they're helping people walk around the neighborhood; they're answering questions. This is all powered by Gemini 2.0. Now, in very Android fashion, it is going to be available for multiple products.

Developers to use.  Links Sony XR; these are all hardware providers that build glasses, and now Android XR is going to be available on them, and it is all powered by Gemini 2.0. We are going to get artificial intelligence built into all of this awesome hardware, and so it

is being built in the form of full goggles, kind of like the Apple Vision Pro. Or, if you don't want something so heavy, they're also building it in the form of just regular glasses that can project interfaces onto the lenses; very similar again to what we've seen from

[Music] So imagine having Google Gemini available to you all day long. It could see everything that you're looking at, it can hear you, and it can help you throughout the day. It is a pretty incredible vision of the future. What do you think? Do you think glasses are the

final form factor of artificial intelligence? Personally, I'm not so sure, because I don't really want to wear glasses all day long. I do find these to be really cool, though. So this type of tech is not quite here; it seems like it's coming soon. We saw with Project

Orion from Meta, as we're seeing with Android XR, the glasses are in prototype phase, actually probably late prototype phase, but not quite available to the public. I'm hoping to get my hands on a pair because I definitely want to test them out and let you know how they are.

But these are incredibly advanced. Tech companies have been working on this for a long time. These look like regular glasses, maybe just a little bit thicker, and they are able to actually project onto clear lenses: project video, project interfaces. They have multiple cameras, they have microphones, they have speakers.
